OBJECTIVES

Students will use take away sheet for photo guidelines while away on a field trip in Washington D.C. (Photography Assignment for Washington D.C.)

Students will use photos taken during trip to manipulate on photoshop.

Students will learn and understand the full use of the following photoshop tools: move tool, lasso tool, opacity adjustment, filter gallery and clone tool.

MATERIALS

  • Digital cameras
  • photos from nature or trip
  • Computer with Photoshop
  • Outdoor area for photo shoot

 

VOCABULARY

move tool – Gives user the ability to move the object on the canvas

lasso tool – gives user the ability to chose a specific area, select it and move the selection

opacity adjustment – changes the opacity of an image

filter gallery – this is a gallery of the filters found in photoshop, by opening up the gallery for a selected image the user can change the image based on what is found in the gallery

clone tool – this tool allows the user to select an area (hold down the option button on Macs) and copy it to a different part of the image, this is great for covering up acne or to take out something in the image which is not wanted and to blend it into the background.

transform – found under the edit menu, this allows the user to transform the shape and size of the image, hold down the shift button to lock proportions in dimensions

ROOM SET-UP

I worked with students all at one table to show them the slide show and to show them digital examples of my own photos. For my photos I used images that I took from my own trip in the woods and then distorted them in fun ways.

PROCEDURE

Students will learn how to use all of the bass and most fundamental of the tools and will feel comfortable with them and their functions at the end of the class. The week prior students were on a field trip to Washington D.C.. I gave them an assignment that I thought would be a lot of fun for them. Here is the assignment.

The trips schedule didn’t permit them to get pictures for just the assignment, but did give them inspiration for some of the things they took pictures of with the digital cameras the school brought along.

I had the students use photos from the trip and still had plenty to work with.

I was away on a trip with a different group of students and decided to use photos from my own trip as examples for what I wanted them to do for each assignment. They had three tasks I wanted them to do in photoshop using tools, layers and giving them all of the typical situations they may run into while using photoshop and how to remedy those situations. The assignments are as followed:

Similar to pic-collage a popular app most of my students have used, they make a collage here, using the select tools, layers, eraser, selection tools, and arranging the photos in an aesthetically pleasing way.
